The 2nd unheard single off the 77 Volume 1 record, for March 2011. Dark and spooky psychedelic rock from beyond the grave. Sounds something like Edward Sharpe on a bad acid trip, having a cathartic/apocalyptic battle with the Brian Jonestown Massacre. Here's your free download.
New Song, Every Month, For 3 Years
Jenson Rhodes was quite possibly the most prophetic artist in Rock history. His recovered and largely unheard records predate many traditionally recognized breakthrough artists in the Alternative Rock genre; such as Nirvana, Violent Femmes, Sublime, Pixies, Pearl Jam and so on. Beginning in 2009, his work has piece-by-piece been digitized and uploaded for the first time.
THUS FAR: we have heard his groundbreaking 10-song 1969 album (the 1st Alternative Rock), a 1969 6-song EP, and a 12-song major label demo recorded in 1981. Since then more of his work has been recovered, in the form of three full-length LPs all recorded within the calendar year of 1977.
NOW: Each of these 36 "new" unheard Rhodes songs will be digitized/uploaded one at a time, released once a month online. As with all his work, all of them will be available for free MP3 download. This blog will chronicle our journey.
